As part of Halte Charlois, the Platform Voor Extratonaliteit is organizing its first pub crawl through the many cafés of Charlois. Along with the iconic duo Veneman and De Groot, we'll visit venues like De Spiegel, Het Paviljoentje, Het Nieuwe Orkest, and The Buccaneer to explore the quintessential Dutch phenomenon of "smartlappen" (sweet songs).
Woody Veneman and Truus de Groot are both icons of the Eindhoven music scene. Eindhoven (also known as ‘Rockcity’) is known as a breeding ground for new and challenging sounds that date back to the early electronic experiments in Philips Electronics NatLab. Their collaboration began in 2007 in the Beukorkest, a musical supergroup led by Rik van Iersel and Stuurbaard Bakkebaard. Now, 18 years later, there is ‘Zonder Rafels Geen Ziel’, the first album by Veneman and de Groot. Inspired by American dive bars, the duo pays tribute to the local pub and its inhabitants in ten original Dutch songs.
